Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the questions we get asked most about Camp Nowhere, and its location. Because, let’s face it, curiosity is inevitable.

Where is Camp Nowhere Located? is it really in the middle of nowhere?
Camp Nowhere is located in Breona, Central Highlands, Tasmania, very close to the Great Lake/ yingina. Just over an hour from Launceston and two hours from Hobart. Camp Nowhere is tucked away, but not that far off the beaten path.

Camp is a breezy 20-minute drive from Miena, where you’ll find the Miena general store (for when you need petrol or basic survival supplies) and the Great Lake Hotel pub (for when you need to pretend you're social). Need more provisions? Deloraine’s your next stop—just 35 minutes down the Plateau. There, you'll find a proper Woolworths and enough quirky shops and cafes to justify the trip.
HOw many guests does Camp Nowhere accomodate?
Camp Nowhere is designed exclusively for two adults.
Is Camp Nowhere suitable for children and/or pets?
Camp Nowhere is designed for adults seeking rest and reconnection, so we are not suitable for children or infants. To protect the local wildlife and the cabin's design, we are unable to accomodate pets.
What does off-grid mean? Will i still be able to charge my phone and use technology? Can i charge my camper battery or electric vehicle?
Off-grid means you’re saying goodbye to mains power and water, and hello to solar panels, batteries and tank water. Sure, you can charge your phone and an iPad or tablet, but don’t plan on plugging in a hairdryer, hair straightener, or your electric vehicle—it’ll overload our laid-back system. High-demand stuff like camper batteries and EVs? Not on the list, please.
do you have wifi? will my phone have reception at Camp nowhere?
Ah, Wi-Fi. The modern-day crutch. At Camp Nowhere we’re all about switching off and embracing the art of ‘doing nothing,’ so there’s no Wi-Fi. If you’re on the Telstra network, you’ll likely have reception, but for others, expect a bit of a patchwork signal. Pro tip: download your movies, maps, books, or whatever else you think you might need—because once you’re here, we’re not guaranteeing you’ll even want to check your phone. The real connection here is with nature, and trust us, it’s far more reliable.
do you have a full kitchen? can i cook there?
Yes, you can cook here. We’ve got 2-burner gas cooking facilities, a stovetop kettle, and a camp toaster for the basics, plus an outdoor kitchen with a cast iron pan and grill for when you're ready to get a little fancy. And of course, there are marshmallows for roasting over the fire—because what’s camp without them? No frills, just the essentials to cook up something tasty. If you're after gourmet, you might need to get creative—or head to the pub.
i don't know how to drive in the snow. will i need chains on my car? will i have to rent a 4WD or AWD car to access camp nowhere?
Camp Nowhere sits at 1100m (3500 feet) above sea level, which means snow’s not just a possibility—it’s a guarantee from May to October. In the full winter months, we recommend checking the weather and road conditions before renting a car (or check in with us directly). Snow and ice can occasionally block the way, and the road often closes to non 4WD vehicles, so an all wheel drive (AWD) or 4WD is your best bet if you’re heading up during the colder months. Stay ahead of the weather and you’ll be fine. Or just embrace the adventure (but maybe not the snowbank). Please note, we will not issue refunds if you can’t make it to Camp due to renting a non-suitable vehicle.
what time of the year can i visit?
Camp Nowhere is open to guests all year, except for July and August when we close down due to the weather (and when our little family gets to use it!). It snows in late autumn and early winter and often in September and October as we're at 1100m.  It's truly spectacular in any season.
what amenities are included at Camp Nowhere?
We have everything you need to "do nothing" including an indoor wood fireplace, an outdoor firepit, grill and basic kitchen, a king-sized bed nook, a deep soaking bath with lake views. We also have a simple kitchen with sink, bar fridge and two burner gas stove. (NOTE: there is no oven). We have kettles, plates, tea, coffee, salt, pepper, oil, spices, marshmallows and a few treats for you.  You also get your choice of milk.
what is there to do nearby?
You may choose to do absolutely 'nothing at Nowhere' (hence our tag line) but if you're the adventurous type, you can trout fish on the Great Lake, hike the UNESCO Central Plateau World Heritage Area (we recommend Pine Lake, Projection Bluff and Liffey Falls to name a few), visit Deloraine, Westbury, Mole Creek (UNESCO Caves) Devonport & surrounds, Launceston and Bothwell back towards Hobart. There are also great wineries and the Cradle to Coast trail to follow just outside of Deloraine.  We are also only just over two hours (one way) to Cradle Mountain if you fancy a big day out. Phew!
